A list of the Critical Skills required by South Africa has been published in the Government Gazette and this list will remain in force & effect until such time as changes are effected by way of new enabling legislation.
The Critical Skills List is expected to be changed and indeed reduced during the course of 2020. However, the current Critical Skills List is still applicable and presents an excellent opportunity for foreign applicants possessing the necessary skills which are in critical shortage in South Africa to apply for a Critical Skills Work Visa and also Permanent Residence in South Africa whilst these options are still available.
The Critical Skills List makes provision for applicants who have skills or qualifications determined to be critical for South Africa to apply for a Critical Skills Work Visa or Permanent Residence Permit and the following categories of Critical Skills, amongst others, are identified on the List :
